Notes on the creation of an ADC module for Oldenberg Grenadiers The Battle of Camden, S.C.

First, some credits:

The game was produced in 1976 as one of four games. More games were in the works but were never produced. This is the last of the four to convert. I don't know who created the games (no credits are given in the game).

As for the ADC module, the terrain for this game was started with Phil Weltsch's version of SPI's Monmouth -- who had borrowed it from a Nicholas Bell module. I did make signifigant changes in the set as I developed the other OG games, but it's a great set to start with. The forest is terrific.

Notable things:

First, I tried to replicate the game. Errors in the game could be mine (in transcription) or in the original game.

The problem is always how much to stay true to the original design and how much should one sacrifice that to make it easier to play or easier to create the module. If I can, I try to stick close to the original design.

Counters: I tried to remain faithful to the original design with several notable departures. I added color to the counters to make it easier to tell which side (American or British) the unit belongs. I also exchanged the side of the unit (left or right) where the flag is to, again, help tell which unit it is. I added a star to the symbol for leaders.

The Board:
The forest is textured instead of solid dark green. The road uses the ADC hexline so the road is a bit jagged.

Rules:
The rules were an edited version of a previously scanned set. I made changes if I could find any. I also added the errata from the errata sheet included in the game (Rev. A).

Things to come:
Work prevented me from working on anything new for a couple of years. Finally found some spare time and wanted to get back to gaming (it suffered also).

I've got some other American Revolution games to do, including Mayfair's Morgan's Rifles. Then there are a couple of more complicated projects: Rand's Saratoga, International Teams's Yorktown (with one of the most beautiful game maps made), and SPI's old American Revolution.

There are several AR games I don't have: Panzerfaust's Spirit of '76, SDC's Minuteman (in Conflict magazine), Jagdpanther's Battle of Cowpens (Magazine April 1973) and Game Theory and Design's War of Rebellion. I'd love to get copies of any of these.
